Conn Iggulden originally benefited from a fabulous marketing
campaign for his first book. The promo was based on 'if you liked Gladiator,
you'll love Emperor' and the huge success of the film brought about great
interest in all things Rome related. The real success though was the books, they
are excellent, and highly recommended, very well researched and written. As well
as becoming bestsellers they also attracted the interest of modern first edition
collectors, almost from day one. The first title is the rarest, its success
ensured much larger print runs for the rest of the series. All of the books were
originally issued with wrap around bands, collectors ought to prioritize copies
complete with the original band. As with many modern releases, signed copies are
not particularly rare and many collectors would not consider an unsigned
version. As always fine copies are the way to go, anything less could, arguably,
be described as uncollectable and a reading copy. Overall a great series and one
we can personally recommend to both readers and collectors.
