Beatrix Potter was born on 28th July 1866 to a wealthy family though she led a lonely and sheltered childhood. It seems her only friends were her pets which she took with her wherever she went and constantly sketched them. Her first book was privately printed due to a lack of interest from publishers, it was turned down by at least 6. Of the 250 copies and estimated half were given to friends as presents and the rest sold for 1/-. They were an instant success so Beatrix Potter had a further 200 copies printed. Eventually Warne woke up and decided to publish it and the rest,  as they say is...
