JG Ballard Low Flying Aircraft

SYNOPSIS

We find in this intriguing collection Ballard's most recent inventions. In 'Low-Flying Aircraft' he enters a world where the surviving vestige of the world's population has come calmly to accept the terrifying logic of its terminal decline: for thirty years people have been matter-of-factly slaughtering their children and closing down the western hemisphere like circus workers dismantling their tents. 'The Dead Astronaut' is set on the launching site at Cape Kennedy which, twenty years after the last rocket has left its platform, has become a satellite graveyard where relic hunters scour burning debris for instrument panels and watch for the re-entry of yesterday's heroes as they fall from their eerie orbits in the night sky.
